Vic: Vic govt pushes Commonwealth on Pt Nepean
The Victorian government is accusing the federal government of being secretive over
plans for Point Nepean, south east of Melbourne.
State Environment Minister JOHN THWAITES has announced the establishment of its own
advisory committee for the Mornington Peninsula site.
He says the federal government has a history of doing deals behind closed doors.
Mr THWAITES says Canberra is still keeping Victoria in the dark about its plans for Point Nepean.
After community pressure, the federal government last December abandoned controversial
commercial plans for the 90 hectare site.
The former defence land is to be held in trust for five years under a federally appointed
management team.
It is then to be handed back to the state and included in a national park.
