FED: Aust ranks seventh in OECD road deaths per 10,000 cars

CANBERRA, Feb 3 AAP - Australia had the seventh-highest number of road deaths per 10,000
vehicles out of 22 industrialised nations, a study released today showed.

But it only ranked 12th in terms of road deaths for every 100,000 people, the Federal
Office of Road Safety figures revealed.

Road fatalities relative to vehicle ownership declined significantly in Australia over two
decades, from 5.8 deaths per 10,000 registered vehicles in 1975 to 1.7 in 1996.
