HELMET LAW URGED FOR SCOOTER RIDERS.(CAPITAL REGION)

Rensselaer County legislator Laura Bauer will propose legislation later this spring making it mandatory for children under age 14 to wear helmets while riding foot-powered scooters on streets and sidewalks.

Her proposal comes on the heels of similar propositions being presented to the Albany County Legislature and the Albany Common Council.

Nassau County Legislature passed a law last week requiring helmets and Suffolk County begins enforcing a measure next month in which any child younger than 18 must wear the head gear when riding a scooter.
