INDIANAPOLIS The United Auto Workers decided Monday to ask ajudge to block the nation's largest truckmaker from raisinghealth-care costs and cutting benefits for its retired workers.
The announcement came Monday after UAW leaders met to frame areaction to Chicago-based Navistar International Corp.'s decision tocut $90 million in health costs by charging premiums and deductibles,and by eliminating some benefits.
The union, which represents about 20,000 members retired fromNavistar, will seek dismissal of a company lawsuit intended to winpermission for the cuts.
